Inspire – High potential and gifted education

At our school, we recognise and nurture student's strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

At Tallowood School we embrace diversity and every learner’s potential.  Our staff have engaged in targeted HPGE professional development through a shared lens to support our students with complex needs in the following ways.

In our classroom
  • Differentiated tasks that adjust pace, complexity, and encourage higher order thinking skills, ensuring each student is appropriately challenged and engaged in their learning journey.
  • We use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) options to provide different ways of learning that help students develop their potential, as a part of supporting their overall learning needs.
  • All students have a personalised learning and support plan developed in collaboration with parents and carers to support student-centred learning and goal achievement.
  • Our school provides opportunities for student voice and advocacy.
Across our school
  • We use technology to provide different ways of learning that help students develop their talent, as a part of supporting their overall learning needs.
  • We include parents and carers and community and use their expertise to ensure all students have opportunities to develop their potential.
  • We ensure our teachers have time to engage in professional learning to build their experience and ensure they can assess and recognise potential in the classroom and school setting.
  • Our school employs an Occupational Therapist and a Physiotherapist who work in consultation with school staff to build knowledge and expertise to support student learning and engagement.
  • Our school offers a hydrotherapy program for targeted students which is run and supported by our physiotherapist.
